The system

Wood is a living material and therefore may be affected by heat and moisture changes. Too much moisture tends to make it dilate, while a dry climate tends to make it shrink and produce cracks.

An additional peculiarity of such material is that, depending on the type of wood, it can be easily attacked by woodworms and moths, especially if not treated with particular coatings.

Antichità Restauri performs anti-woodworm treatments and anti-mite treatments with the new ecological and innovative system called Equa System which acts on all kinds of wooden and textile artefacts.

The system’s working principle is essentially based on the humidity-heat coupling, which will be diffused inside a container in a controlled manner. The operating cycle lasts about 14 hrs, where the heat does not go over 65 ° C temperatures and the humidity helps to nourish the wood fibres to ensure these last, will not either injure or shrink under the treatment. Our system, before being employed, has been tested for very long on a mock-up machinery.

The EquaSystem anti-woodworm treatment and anti-mite treatment system have been designed and studied to operate without any use of detrimental nor harmful substances for the environment and, thus, not being invasive towards the processed artefacts.

The treatment is, in fact, a long-lasting cycle of roughly 14 hours, in contrast with other systems that work on very short but intense cycles. Due to energy reasons, the machinery works mainly at nights.

The system innovation lies in the fact that, besides larvae having been annihilated, eggs are destroyed too, which is an important factor. The moisture acts as hydration for the accomplished artefacts, hence, preserving the consistency of both types of glues and organic materials. This system enables you to treat, in full safety, every kind and historical age furniture, either upholstered or not, painting on wood and canvas, wooden carvings, time-honoured books, carpets, mattresses and much more.

To the present day, this method has accrued almost 10 years of existence, among which, it has been chosen by churches for the wood carving treatments as well as fine arts’ works.

Our guarantee

Upon completion of each treatment, a plasticized guarantee card will be issued by us, which contains an image of the treated product, date of treatment and precaution measures to take to prevent the object from being attacked back by the woodworm.

The guarantee lasts for 5 years and it is designed as long as to cover and to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment. However, if the right measures are taken, the treatment may have a lifespan of decades.

It is reiterated this system has a 100% guaranteed effectiveness, as demonstrated by the technical expertise of some University, who have established the artefacts being treated with this system have no longer encountered any issue of parasites.

Nonetheless, it must be said that when the treated artefact is returned back, this must not be placed next to other furniture or woodworm-eaten objects, otherwise one may incur the risk of nullifying the work done so far.

Within the treatment cost, if requested, we include the closure of holes made with special waxes which also serves as a deterrent against a possible future attack.
